Background of Technology Company of the Year
Established since 2007, Technology Company of the Year Award is an integral part of the annual Computerworld Hong Kong Awards. The Award aims to recognize and promote Hong Kong-based innovation in technology development, as well as their excellence in business execution.

  • To promote Hong Kong technology firms for their innovation, business and operational excellence.
  • To recognize Hong Kong technology firms for their roles in representing Hong Kong in the technology market.
  • Award for Hong Kong-based company that is selected as the foremost company of the year in the provision of IT products and/or services to organizations locally and overseas that has been integral to the advancement of the local IT industry.
  • Must be a Hong Kong-headquartered company (overseas MNCs in HK are not allowed)
  • A technology or service provider for enterprises/business (consumer technologies and applications are excluded)
  • Previous winners of Technology Company of the Year are not encouraged to re-enter
Judging criteria
Submission will be evaluated by a panel of judges from leading industry authorities and our editors who will decide the winner based on its achievements over the last 12-18 months and the following criteria:
  • Business and technology innovation
  • Business strategy and execution
  • Competitiveness in the global market
  • Business achievements and performance

Judging Panel
Sunny Lee, Chairman, Hong Kong Computer Society CIO Board

Sunny is also Director of Altas Tech Limited. He has more than 30 years of experience in business and technology management in both Hong Kong and overseas. He was Executive Director, IT of The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC), where he was member of Board of Management and had overall responsibility for Club’s IT strategy and innovation. Prior to HKJC, he served at Towngas as Executive Committee Member and CIO. Sunny was also CEO of two strategic businesses, and Towngas Telecommunications.

Nicholas Yang, Executive Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Nicholas’s career in general management, sales and marketing, strategic planning, consulting, and technology development started more than three decades ago. His career started in the US in 1978, when he worked as a senior design engineer for Intel and later as a strategic management consultant for Bain & Company. Nicholas left the US to pursue a career in Hong Kong and China in 1983 and became Executive Director and Deputy Group Managing Director of Shell Electric, focusing on investing and managing infrastructural and technology ventures. He was appointed as CEO of Cyberport in 2003 before joining Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Po-Chi Wu, Adjunct Professor at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Po Chi has been a venture capital investor, entrepreneur, business development/R&D executive, scientist and educator. Prior to UST, he was a professional venture capitalist and responsible for investments in high technology areas, including life sciences, IT, semiconductors, materials, and software, as well as traditional businesses. Among his most notable investments are companies that achieved public market valuations in excess of a billion dollars such as: TiVo, Cascade Communications, and Veri-Fone.

Specialties: Multi-cultural strategy design, innovation, primarily in technology companies, learning organizations, tolerance for ambiguity, learning from failure.
